Service Description

Restorative Yoga is a passive practice meant to activate the body's relaxation response. In a restorative yoga practice, the poses are held between five and twenty minutes. The postures are supported by a variety of props -- bolsters, blocks, blankets, chairs, straps, sandbags, eye pillows, walls, and anything else that can assist in supporting the weight of the body. The purpose of the props is to totally eliminate any unnecessary strain and allow the body to come into total relaxation. You can practice at home with blankets and pillows... maybe using a book as a block or a bathrobe belt as a strap. Modern day living is busy and chaotic, often causes the body's flight, fight or freeze system to activate. Restorative Yoga can often engage the body's natural healing abilities by providing relaxation in an effortless way. There are many benefits to a restorative yoga practice. They include: Decreases the stress hormone cortisol Improves sleep, digestion & immunity Releases tense muscles & aching joints Teaches conscious control of relaxation Increases concentration & focus Balances the nervous system Activates the relaxation response Who is it for? Restorative Yoga can be practiced by anyone, anytime. Whether you are pregnant, menstruating, recovering from injury or illness, recovering from emotional grief or pain, struggling with addiction or mental health issues, overcoming challenging life events, or even just drained and low on energy -- you can still practice restorative yoga.
